Sveti Juraj (Jurjevo) (St. George), a village and harbour on the coast of
the Velebit Channel, 10 km south of Senj. It developed on the location from where
passing to the hinterland of Velebit (across the Oltari Pass, 1,002 m) is the easiest, with an abundance of water and a large shore, which on the southern side ends with
a shallow cove, well protected from sirocco. The harbour is also well protected from south winds, partly also from west winds. However, it is not protected from the bora
blowing from the Oltari pass. Between Vlaska and Sveti Juraj are several coves with nice shores. The small cove of Kolo, south of Sveti Juraj, provides good shelter to
smaller vessels. Especially important are rich submarine freshwater springs. Economy is based on farming, livestock breeding, fishing, wood-processing and tourism. Sveti
Juraj is located at the intersection of the Adriatic main road (M2, E65) Rijeka -
Zadar and the regional road Sveti Juraj -
Krasno - Otocac.
