Sucuraj, a village and small harbour in the cove of the same name, on the eastern
part of the island of Hvar. Chief occupations include farming, viniculture,
olive growing, fishing, fish processing and tourism. West of the village, on the northern coast of Hvar, there are many coves with sand beaches (Vela Mosevcica, Mlaska,
Bristova, Pokrivenik, etc.). Sucuraj lies on the regional road; ferry port, connection with
Drvenik.
Colonized probably in the mid-15th century. The Augustinian monks arrived here in 1573 and of their monastery only a part has been preserved. The fortification was erected
by Venice in 1631. A picturesque square is in front of the Baroque church of St. Anthony (1664).
